I love heels. They make me feel stylish, dressed up and tres feminine. When I started riding to work I wore sensible flats and carried my heels in my bag. Then one day at lunch I wheeled my bike out of the building in my heels. Too lazy to go back upstairs to change shoes, I rode off. The flats stayed home the next day.
About the Bike Commute Diaries: Launched in May 2012 for National Bike Month, this series explores the unexpected and surprising things I’ve learned about bicycling for transportation.

To be completely honest: I sometimes carry flats in my bag if I think I’ll have to do much walking during the day. It’s easier to ride in most heels than it is to walk in them.

I think that’s the first time I see you in pumps (not sure, though) I shy away from them. I always want my shoes strapped to my feet, otherwise I am feeling like Cinderella all day.

Good catch! I also shy away from pumps because they’re not as comfortable biking or walking for that matter. Other pumps I have (and rarely wear) are the ones in my profile shot and the pair of multicolor cloth kitten heels I wore with the short teal trench coat in a fashion shot a couple of months ago.

Just wondering, how long a commute are you doing in heels? And is it hilly or flat? So far mine seems too long and hilly to imagine doing it in heels.

Hi Pamela, my commute is under five miles of riding on flat, low-stress streets and trails plus a 15 minute train ride. I definitely wouldn’t commute in heels if it was any hillier than an overpass or longer than 8 or so miles. How long and hilly is your commute?

My commute downtown is about 5 1/2 miles taking me about half an hour. Some of the hills are pretty steep. Maybe I’ll try bringing heels to the Spin & Sip ride downtown. Once I’m downtown the hills are much smaller!

They’re tuxedo shoes! I don’t wear them much because they’re really too tall. But they are super cute.
