Fashion Friday: The Power of Red

29 Mar

When facing a tough negotiation, businessmen will turn to red power ties to show strength, authority and dominance. For more casual settings, bold and dynamic red accents can give you a extra boost of confidence to help you make a statement and stand out from the rest of the crowd. There are no red shrinking violets.

Red for Rights

About Fashion Friday: Inspired by a 2011 Bike to Work Day challenge sponsored by the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, this series highlights the broad range of “dress for the destination” bicycling fashions.

Not the bike I was expecting – though I suppose the Trek is red, too! :)

Ginger Spice the Trek 520 is copper which has a little bit of red, but this red story was all about the clothes and shoes. Juliett’s bold and dynamic red is more than an accent, she’s over the top powerful!

Great outfit! How do you keep your shoes in such great shape? I usually commute in my clip ins and carry my “office shoes”.

The photos are low-resolution so you can’t see my little red shoes have a few scars on the heels. :) But I pedal on the balls of my feet, not the instep, which keeps the damage to a minimum.

I ride with clip in pedals on my road and mountain bikes and on my touring bike when I’m going more than a few miles. But on my more upright city bikes, the flat pedals are great. I used to ride in flat shoes and carry my heels then I realized that most of my heels work just fine. Not having to carry them saves room in my bag for after work shopping trips.

On the bike, red is still power. It’s power to climb that hill, hop up that ledge, and look smoking, molten metal hot when you’re doing it.
