The pointy toes of my cowboy boots may be designed for sliding into stirrups quickly, and they may be useful for killing cockroaches in corners. But for track standing at stop signs? Not so good.

About the Bike Commute Diaries: Launched in May 2012 for National Bike Month, this series explores the unexpected and surprising things I’ve learned about bicycling for transportation.

Toe overlap never really bothered me… without fenders. But with fenders it’s another matter. I’m not sure about pointy-toes… haven’t tried those :).

Yes, the fenders increase any toe overlap in two ways: shortening the distance, and then creating a gap between the inside of the fender and the tire. Perfect size for my pointy toe cowboy boots.

“perfect size” sounds like a highly unpleasant from-experience story – but I hope I’m wrong!
